Tesla Holds 11509 BTC For 4 Years Diamond Hands Still On
Tesla still holds 11509 BTC and that stack has not moved since early 2022, a near 4 year HODL that keeps Tesla as one of top corporate BTC owners.
News now: Tesla Q filings show same coin count quarter after quarter. Q3 2025 value was 1.31B with 80M gain on books. Q1 2026 saw BTC fall from about 90k to 68k and Tesla stack fell to 786M with 173M fair value loss. Q4 2025 also saw a 239M loss as BTC fell from 114k to 88k. Fair value at end 2025 was about 1.007B versus 1.074B at end 2024. Cost basis is about 386M. Tesla ranks about 11th among public firms for BTC size, behind MicroStrategy and peers but ahead of many miners.
Back story: Tesla bought 43200 BTC in Feb 2021 for 1.5B at about 38k average. It sold a small slice soon after, then sold about 75 percent in mid 2022 near bear low. Since then hold has been flat. No new buy or sell. Arkham data shows no move from linked wallets to Coinbase since that sale. SpaceX also holds about 8285 BTC.
Why this HODL matters: New FASB rule from Dec 2023 lets firms mark digital assets at fair market value each quarter, not only at low. That rule lets Tesla show gain when BTC rises and loss when it falls via other income line. Q4 2024 was first big gain of 600M under new rule, Q3 2025 added 80M. So BTC now hits P&L directly.
Market effect: Tesla hold signals long term conviction in BTC as treasury asset even while main focus is AI compute, robotaxi, and SpaceX link. In Q1 2026 Tesla sent 2B into SpaceX after SpaceX took over xAI, a move that offset 1.4B free cash flow and added debt. Yet BTC stack stayed. That mix shows AI and space as first use of cash, BTC as long hold reserve. For crypto market, a steady holder of 11509 BTC removes sell pressure and adds trust.
Logical view: Holding 4 years through big swings from 2022 low to 2024 high near 100k plus shows Tesla is not trading BTC but keeping it as reserve. If BTC rises, fair value gains lift other income and help EPS. If BTC falls, loss hits. Risk is vol on balance sheet. Real upside is if BTC trends up with more corp adoption.
Real idea: Watch Tesla 10Q for BTC value, watch Arkham for wallet moves, watch SpaceX hold too. If Tesla ever adds again, it may spark broad bid. If Tesla ever sells, it may spark fear but past sale in 2022 did not kill rally long term.
Bottom line: Tesla holds 11509 BTC for 4 years with no move, even while BTC swings from 90k to 68k and back. Cost 386M, value near 1B. That diamond hand is still on and keeps Tesla in top tier of corp BTC holders.
