ETH (+22%) outperforming BTC (+12%) to start July is one of those developments people usually recognize in hindsight.

By the time everyone starts talking about it, capital has already begun moving further out the risk curve.
That’s why relative strength deserves attention.
Not because ETH is necessarily becoming the best trade.
But because it often reflects a broader change in market positioning.
──────────
For the past few weeks, BTC has carried most of the market.
ETH lagged.
Altcoins largely moved sideways.
That’s a narrow market.
History suggests narrow markets rarely stay narrow forever.
The next phase usually begins when leadership starts to broaden.
ETH has often been the first step in that process.
──────────
The rotation tends to follow a familiar sequence.
1. BTC outperforms.
2. ETH begins outperforming BTC.
3. Capital rotates into ecosystem leaders.
4. Broader altcoins start participating.
Each stage expands the opportunity set.
The longer ETH leads, the harder it becomes for capital to remain concentrated in Bitcoin alone.
Opportunity cost begins doing the work.
──────────
That doesn’t guarantee a full altcoin cycle.
Relative strength can fail.
But if ETH continues outperforming while reclaiming key technical levels, market positioning starts to look very different from a Bitcoin-only rally.
The level I’m watching is $2,000.
A sustained move above it would strengthen the case that participation is broadening rather than simply rotating within large-cap assets.
──────────
Markets rarely expand all at once.
Leadership usually changes first.
Participation follows later.
That’s why ETH outperforming BTC is worth paying attention to.
Not because it confirms an alt season.
Because it often marks the point where capital begins looking beyond Bitcoin.
