INSIGHT: Vitalik Buterin proposes a new kind of programming language. One that compiles to proof systems like Lean, designed only to make definitions and theorems maximally readable by humans.
The reasoning flips the usual bottleneck. "All that matters with proofs is that the proofs are correct." Machines check that part. What humans need is to understand "what the actual precise claims are that have been proven."
AI provers already run through Lean. AlphaProof, DeepSeek-Prover, and Mistral's Leanstral all use it as their formal backend, AWS formally verifies its authorization language in it, and Microsoft verifies production cryptography with it.
Ten AI agents recently built a verified language with proved optimizations in a weekend, zero human-written lines. The proofs now arrive faster than anyone can read what they claim.
@VitalikButerin has pushed formal verification for years as the answer to smart contract exploits, and the Ethereum Foundation runs a dedicated verification effort.
A human-readable theorem layer is the missing piece of that agenda, auditors could finally read what an AI-verified contract actually guarantees.
