PANews July 21 reports, citing Edaily, that the South Korean government will hold a forum today chaired by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Strategy and Finance Choi Sang-mok to officially launch legislative discussions on the “Framework Act on Digital Assets (Phase 2),” with a focus on stablecoin regulation. This forum is the first stablecoin legislative forum organized and hosted by the government.

The South Korean government and the ruling Democratic Party plan to push for the bill’s passage this year. In the 2026 economic growth strategy announced on July 14, the authorities said they plan to advance the legislation of the “Framework Act on Digital Assets” in the second half of the year, break down and refine the digital asset industry, establish a regulatory framework for business conduct, and lay a legal foundation for standardizing stablecoin regulation.
