Ethereum Whale Awakens, 9,000 $ETH Moved After 11-Month Slumber!
The on-chain alarms are ringing! A massive Ethereum whale (wallet starting with 0xaE0) just woke up from an 11-month hibernation, moving a staggering 9,000 ETH (worth approximately $17.2 million) to a wallet belonging to the institutional market maker Cumberland.
The Trade Details:
The Move: 9,000 ETH transferred to Cumberland, a premier over-the-counter (OTC) trading desk.
The Value: ~$17.19 million at the time of transfer.
The History: This isn't this whale's first massive cash-out. In their last recorded activity 11 months ago, this exact same address deposited a mind-boggling 50,000 ETH (worth roughly $200 million at the time) into FalconX across 13 separate transactions.
What This Means for ETH
According to on-chain monitoring by BlockBeats and Onchain Lens, this deposit is highly likely intended for an OTC sale.
When a whale of this size wants to offload millions in Ethereum, dumping it directly onto a public exchange would cause massive slippage and crash the spot price. By routing the funds through an OTC platform like Cumberland, they can secure deep institutional liquidity to sell their bags without immediately tanking the retail market.
However, exchange deposits from long-dormant whales are traditionally viewed as a bearish signal, indicating that long-term holders are looking to take profits or rebalance their portfolios.
