ENS DAO approves the launch of a new Security Committee, and the 5-of-8 multisig mechanism has the power to cancel malicious proposals
PANews July 21 news: According to official information, the ENS DAO has approved a proposal to activate a new Security Committee, with a two-year term. The committee consists of eight members, has veto power, and can cancel a proposal during the waiting period after a malicious proposal has passed but before execution. The committee’s authority is limited to canceling transactions in the time lock; it cannot access treasury funds, submit proposals, or rewrite already approved proposals.
The committee may only exercise its power under the emergency conditions specified in its charter. ENS noted that governance itself could become an attack surface—voting power could be borrowed to initiate an attack, proposal code could hide malicious behavior, and leaked credentials could be used to push harmful transactions. The new committee uses a 5-of-8 multisig: at least five members must agree to cancel a proposal, and the term must be extended by a DAO vote after two years.
