Grayscale filed a Worldcoin spot ETF S-1 registration statement with the U.S. SEC on July 20, planning to list on Nasdaq under the code $GWLD, with creations and redemptions issued in standard units of 10,000 shares per batch. The fund will directly hold World Network’s native token WLD, with BitGo Bank & Trust serving as the custodian. Bloomberg ETF analyst James Seyffart confirmed the application on X.
After the news was released, the WLD price jumped by about 4.5%. The token’s current market capitalization is about $1.3B, ranking 57th in the crypto market.
This is just the latest step in Grayscale’s accelerated rollout of single-asset altcoin ETFs. Previously, Grayscale launched spot Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs, and then successively submitted fund applications tied to assets including Dogecoin, Solana, Chainlink, Aave, NEAR, BNB, Canton Network, Hyperliquid (HYPE), and Bittensor (TAO). In January 2026, Grayscale will further expand internally assessed altcoin reserves to 36 assets, with allocations planned by categories such as smart contracts, financial protocols, and AI.
This series of moves signals that the crypto market is undergoing a structural shift from “Bitcoin-led” to “diversified and compliant” growth. Grayscale defines 2026 as “the dawn of the institutional crypto era,” with the core logic being that the widespread adoption of spot ETFs and the clarity of the regulatory framework are reshaping the past four-year cycle—previously driven largely by retail speculation—into a new landscape dominated by structured, long-term institutional capital.
Worldcoin’s special feature is its biometric identity verification attribute, which means its ETF application faces more complex regulatory scrutiny than ordinary altcoins. If approved, it would set a precedent for institutionalizing the “AI + crypto” track. Grayscale still needs SEC approval and must file a 19b-4 rule change application, and similar filings have typically taken several months in the past. In any case, Grayscale is moving at the fastest pace to secure its spot in the altcoin ETF race, and the outcome of this “compliance landing race” will have a profound impact on crypto-asset capital flows and market structure over the next five years. #夏日创作营
