Yield GUSD Stays at 3.8 Percent: Here’s How the Newest Passive Income Machine Works in Gate’s Ecosystem

The stablecoin yield trend continues to grow, and Gate is one of the most aggressive exchanges pushing this narrative through its GUSD product. By mid-July, the total amount staked in GUSD has already broken through $230 million, jumping from the $120 million milestone recorded shortly after its launch at the end of August last year, signaling steadily growing user interest in the offering.

What Exactly Is GUSD

It’s important to understand from the start that GUSD is not a conventional stablecoin like USDT or USDC that purely functions as a medium of exchange. Gate officially defines GUSD as a yield-bearing investment certificate backed by real-world assets—especially short-term US government treasury bonds and similar RWA instruments—rather than just a token pegged to the US dollar. That means GUSD represents the value of the user’s investment, but does not confer direct ownership of the underlying assets.

Users can mint GUSD on a one-to-one ratio using USDT, USDC, or USD1, and can also redeem it back into USDT or USDC anytime through two options: a standard redemption that takes about three days, or a fast redemption option newly introduced by Gate on July 17, enabling instant exchange in minutes with no additional fees, though subject to certain quotas capped by the platform.

How Much Yield Is Actually Offered

Based on Gate’s latest official data, the base minting yield for GUSD is currently 3.8% APR. It is calculated and automatically added each day without requiring users to make manual claims. This figure is dynamic—it follows Gate ecosystem revenues as well as the yields from the underlying RWA assets and stablecoin products—so it may rise or fall with market conditions, rather than being guaranteed to remain the same forever.

What makes this product more attractive than just the base yield is an additional layer via the Launchpool program. Based on the currently running three hundred sixty-fifth Launchpool period, combining the base yield with Launchpool rewards could drive an estimated combined APR of up to 11.67% for regular users, and as high as 81.51% specifically for new users who are minting GUSD for the first time—though of course, numbers that high only apply to the limited-time promotion period and a certain portion of funds, not permanently to all balances held.

The Use of GUSD Goes Beyond Just Earning Yield

In addition to its basic function of generating daily interest, GUSD is designed to remain liquid and can be used across products within the Gate ecosystem without needing to withdraw funds first. One of the most relevant examples right now is that GUSD can be used directly to participate in Gate’s Pre IPO program, including the OpenAI Asset Certificate product that has recently been getting a lot of attention, while still collecting the 3.8% yield during the lock-up period—so users’ funds aren’t completely idle even while being locked for other purposes.

Comparing With Other Stablecoin Yields

Compared with other interest-bearing stablecoin products on the market, which generally range from 3% to 5% APR, GUSD’s 3.8% is competitive even if it’s not the highest. The main value-add, however, comes from the added reward layer via Launchpool and the cross-product integration mentioned above, rather than the base yield figure alone.

Risks That Still Need to Be Understood

Although Gate calls GUSD a product that preserves the principal value of users’ investments, it’s important to remember this is not a bank savings product and is not guaranteed by any deposit insurance institution. Because it is based on RWA assets and depends on Gate’s platform operations, there are still risks, including counterparty risk and technical risks in the underlying smart contract—no matter how small the likelihood may be. The high yield numbers, especially the 81% bonus for new users, should also be understood as a short-term promotional incentive that could drop significantly once the campaign period ends, not as a projection of long-term returns that can continue to be expected.

How to Get Started

For those who want to try it, the steps are relatively simple: open or log into your Gate account, mint GUSD using USDT, USDC, or USD1 on a one-to-one ratio, then leave the GUSD balance in your wallet to start accumulating daily yield automatically. For those who want to maximize results, joining the currently running Launchpool program could be an additional consideration—just make sure to still review the lock-up period and the specific requirements of each program before committing large amounts of funds.

As with other investment products, you should allocate only money that you’re truly ready to place for a certain period of time, and understand that the displayed yield figure can change at any time according to the platform’s policies and overall market conditions.
