Hackers breached Kenya’s presidential website to demand a ransom of 5 Bitcoins; law enforcement has launched an investigation.
PANews July 21, according to News.bitcoin, the Kenyan government is investigating the alleged hacking of President William Ruto’s official website. The attacker temporarily crippled the site and altered the homepage content, demanding a ransom of 5 BTC. William Kabogo, Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Information, Communications and the Digital Economy, said Kenya’s law enforcement agency, the ICT Authority, immediately launched a cybersecurity response protocol to contain the incident and carry out evidence-gathering investigations. The authorities will temporarily restrict public access to the portal. There is currently no evidence that sensitive data was accessed without authorization, leaked, or that information was lost, and government systems and digital services are still operating securely.
