AIMPACT, April 27 (UTC+8): OpenAI again deactivated its dedicated Codex programming model, integrating its functionality into the main model. GPT-5.5 will provide stronger agent programming capabilities and lower token usage. This is OpenAI’s second time disabling the Codex model. After the first shutdown, it had briefly resumed, but now it has been fully merged into the main model and is no longer operated as a standalone product. Codex previously originated as the underlying model behind GitHub Copilot; this integration marks OpenAI’s move to unify programming capabilities within the main model system.
