Institutional Money Returns to Bitcoin, Strengthening Market Bottom Expectations

Thirteen spot Bitcoin ETFs traded in the US recorded a total net inflow of $75.67 million last week. The previous week, the funds had received $197.4 million. This marked the second week of positive growth after an eight-week outflow, strengthening expectations of a market bottom. This is a significant turning point and closely watched data point for Bitcoin and the cryptocurrency market.

ETF Flows Turn Positive Again

At the beginning of the week, renewed military clashes between the US and Iran led to a single-day outflow of $424.7 million from Bitcoin funds. However, capital flows turned positive again in subsequent sessions.

Between July 13 and 17, spot Ether ETFs received a net inflow of $105 million, XRP ETFs $6.78 million, and Solana ETFs $948,200. Hyperliquid ETFs, however, saw a net outflow of $7.26 million.

Bitcoin Rises Above Critical Average

Bitcoin has once again risen above its 200-week moving average, around $63,300. The asset, which has been trading between $60,000 and $65,000 in recent weeks, briefly surpassed $65,000 despite news of a new US attack on July 20th.

Damien Lo believes the conflict could increase inflationary and interest rate pressures, potentially delaying a broader return of institutional capital. Lo also notes that the passage of the CLARITY Act in the US Congress before the August recess could provide new support for Bitcoin. The bill requires bipartisan support in the Senate to pass.

Conflicts in the Middle East are causing interest rates to remain high for longer periods, continuing to put pressure on risky assets, including Bitcoin. Whales are reducing their positions.

The latest developments in Bitcoin whale trading are as follows: A whale wallet that hadn't moved for five years transferred 700 BTC to another address. The assets, acquired for a total of $22.34 million, are now worth approximately $45.3 million.

Another investor holding one of the largest Bitcoin long positions sold 903.4 BTC with 10 limit orders, making a profit of $554,400. This investor, who reduced their net position by 668.2 BTC, now holds a long position of 994.2 BTC at an average cost of $64,052. Whales holding large amounts of Bitcoin are increasingly expecting an upward trend in the price, believing that Bitcoin has bottomed out.
