AIMPACT message, April 27 (UTC+8): OpenAI again disabled its dedicated Codex programming model, integrating its capabilities into the main model. GPT-5.5 will provide stronger agent programming abilities and lower token usage. This is OpenAI’s second time disabling the Codex model. After the first shutdown, it had briefly resumed, but now it has been fully merged into the main model and will no longer be operated as a standalone product. Codex’s predecessor was the GitHub Copilot underlying model; this integration marks OpenAI consolidating programming capabilities into its main model system.
