Over the past year, South Korea has cracked down on financial, securities, and virtual asset crimes, prosecuting 304 people and seizing 381.4 billion won in illegal proceeds.
PANews July 20, reported by Digital Asset: Over the past year, South Korea’s Ministry of Justice and the Prosecutors’ Offices have prosecuted a total of 304 people suspected of crimes involving finance, securities, and virtual assets (digital assets), and seized and preserved illegal proceeds worth 381.4 billion won.
The Ministry of Justice and the Prosecutors’ Offices explained that they focused their efforts on cracking down on three major types of malicious crimes that threaten public life: voice phishing, crimes involving finance and digital assets, and drug crimes, achieving tangible results. First, the joint investigation team for voice phishing crimes under the Eastern District Prosecutors’ Office of Seoul prosecuted 471 people and detained 169 people between July 2025 and May 2026. Compared with the previous three years, the average number of people prosecuted per month increased by 87%, and the number of people detained also rose by 6.7%. Second, led by the joint investigation group for financial securities and virtual asset crimes of the Southern District Prosecutors’ Office in Seoul, between June 2025 and May 2026, it prosecuted 304 relevant offenders, arrested 25 people, and seized illegal proceeds worth 381.4 billion won. In addition, a joint drug crime headquarters established in places including the Suwon District Prosecutors’ Office, which was formed in November last year and operated through June this year, prosecuted 246 individuals, including 8 drug-trafficking organizations, and arrested 125 people.
