GUSD annualized yield climbs to 3.8%, as stablecoin “demand-deposit-style wealth management” gets another round of competition
Gemini Dollar (GUSD) has raised its coin-holding annualized yield to 3.8% APY effective July 7, 2026. Compliant platforms such as Gate.io take custody—interest accrues the next day, compounded daily, with no lockups, and deposits starting from 1 GUSD. These specs are already approaching money market funds, yet they still carry the flexibility of a stablecoin.
The underlying setup doesn’t play the algorithmic game: in GUSD reserves, about 86% is allocated to short-term U.S. Treasuries within 90 days, and the remainder is placed in FDIC-insured banks, audited by a third party each month. Short-dated Treasury yields are still around 3.5%; Gemini slices out part of the reserve interest and hands it back to users—3.8% lands squarely in the “slightly higher than money funds, but lower risk than DeFi” sweet spot.
Mapped to the market, the most direct read is stablecoin issuer logic—Circle (CRCL, the NYSE “stablecoin first stock”) and Coinbase (COIN), which holds a heavy position in stablecoin trading, will both be watching this spread spillover. If GUSD dares to offer 3.8%, it effectively pushes the arms race of “holding coins to earn interest” one step further—next comes whether USDC and PYUSD will follow.
For idle funds parked with USD exposure, a compliant stablecoin like GUSD, regulated by NYDFS, is more appealing than bank USD time deposits in the short term; but you need to keep an eye on redemption terms—large amounts (>250k) require T+1, and you also have to factor in on-chain Gas and platform limits. #GUSD年化升至3.8% #夏日创作营
