PANews July 19. According to market sources, Matt Corva, Legal Director at Consensys, the parent company of MetaMask, disclosed that MetaMask suffered a security incident in which the team was infiltrated by a North Korean hacker. The hacker’s name is Tyler Knapp. He entered MetaMask via an outsourcing arrangement through a human-resources staffing supplier he had long collaborated with, bypassing the background checks that would have applied to direct company hiring. The hacker worked at the company for one month and participated in development of the wallet’s fiat on-ramp and off-ramp features. During that time, he was flagged by the company’s security monitoring due to abnormal IP and behavior. The company immediately revoked all of his access rights and paused all product releases that he handled. Matt Corva said that, at present, there has been no material data or funds loss.
