Just moved a little money on-chain, and I’m genuinely torn up. Mainnet ETH is really expensive—yeah, painfully so—but it’s rock-solid, like an old friend—so when I occasionally need to do big transfers, I still obediently route through L1. I just want peace of mind.
But for day-to-day stuff—those small interactions, minting pixel avatars, whatever—the whole L2 vibe is still better. On Arbitrum or Optimism, gas is so cheap it’s basically ignorable, and it’s fast too. The only annoyance is that cross-chain bridges are a bit of a hassle, especially when you finish the crossing and realize you forgot to bring ETH for gas…
Lately, with all the incentive programs popping up across new L1/L2s, lots of OGs are rushing in to mine, then sell on the way out. Honestly, it’s pretty lively. But that “mine and withdraw” playbook leaves me feeling a bit worn out—like everyone doesn’t really believe it’ll last long-term. Maybe I still prefer to stick in an ecosystem with a better experience, and slowly tinker with my little pixel theatre.
Forget it—let’s do it like this for now, and see which off-chain airdrop next can save me some gas fees.
