Just switched back and forth between L2 and the mainnet, getting flustered. Cheap gas is definitely tempting, but some transactions still have to go back to the mainnet—just for faster confirmations, it feels more reassuring. Seriously, lately there are phishing links everywhere, and it’s not unreasonable that hardware wallets are out of stock either. I’ve actually changed my approach: I’d rather spend a bit more on gas to go through the mainnet than save that little and gamble on it. In any case, don’t try to save a few bucks—otherwise you might end up getting hacked.
