I was just looking at something about a public chain upgrade, and it messed up my on-chain data. Then I started thinking maybe I should reorganize my transaction records again, otherwise I’ll really lose it when tax reporting comes around the end of the year.

I used to think that as long as I had a good memory, I could handle my taxes by flipping through my wallet addresses at year-end. But last year I tried it once. With all the on-chain stuff—swaps, cross-chain transfers, staking rewards—I spent two days just putting a few hundred transactions in order along the timeline. In the end, I even missed an airdrop, and I almost had the tax authority paying attention to me. Now I’ve learned my lesson. Every time I do an operation, I just screenshot it or make a note right away. I name the files like “date-protocol-operation type,” for example “2025-04-10-UNI-SWAP-TOKEN”. It’s not a big deal at all, and it’s definitely better than digging through wallets at year-end.

Before and after a public chain upgrade, everyone wonders whether ecosystem projects will migrate. At times like this, on-chain records get even messier, so you really have to stay alert. My approach right now is: after every interaction, I open a local spreadsheet, fill in the time, address, operation, and amount, and then drop a screenshot into a folder. Basically, it’s like keeping a quick account while planting—so when harvest time comes, you won’t be at a loss.

How do you keep records? Do you have any better tools you’d recommend? That’s it for now—I’m going to sort out the operations from the last few days.
