Crypto KOL Rune asked Coinbase trading product lead Cobie a question, saying Cobie’s goal in taking over the Base App was to drive users to transact on-chain, but Base management’s recent performance has again damaged users’ trust. He questioned how the Base App will attract new users when the team culture makes supporters feel “fooled.”

Cobie responded that he took over the Base App a few days ago, while also handling Coinbase App, advanced trading, and other Coinbase trading products, but he does not oversee the Base chain. He believes Coinbase has, to some extent, been in an “ivory tower” in the past, making it relatively distant from users—especially crypto-native users. He acknowledged that due to multiple avoidable mistakes, Coinbase and Base have already seriously depleted this segment of users’ trust, and today’s missteps are included as well.

Cobie said these problems cannot be resolved within a week or even a month. He will try to listen more to the voices of on-chain users, push product developers to build closer ties with users, and roll out products that users genuinely want to use.

Rune later said Coinbase has long failed to truly value consumers, and Base management kept joking about the situation after users suffered losses, causing users’ trust to be nearly exhausted. However, he still believes Base has the foundation to become leading L2 infrastructure, and hopes Cobie can change the current situation.
