Crypto KOL Rune asked Coinbase trading product lead Cobie, saying Cobie’s goal after taking over the Base App is to drive users to transact on-chain, but Base management’s recent performance has again damaged user trust. He questioned how the Base App will attract new users when the team culture makes supporters feel “fooled.”

Cobie replied that he took over the Base App a few days ago, while also responsible for Coinbase App, advanced trading, and other Coinbase trading products, but he does not manage the Base chain itself. He admitted that Coinbase has, to some extent in the past, been in an “ivory tower,” and has been somewhat disconnected from users, especially crypto-native users. Coinbase and Base have also burned through a large amount of user trust due to some avoidable mistakes, including the incident on that day.
Cobie said these issues can’t be resolved in a week or even a month. He will try to listen more to on-chain users’ voices, push product developers and users to build closer ties, and roll out products that users truly want to use.
Rune later said that Base’s infrastructure still has potential to become a leading L2, but it needs leadership that truly prioritizes users. He also hopes Cobie can change the current situation.
