Rune questions whether Base users’ trust has been damaged. Cobie: Coinbase is pulling further away from users and will try to fix it.

Crypto KOL Rune asked Coinbase trading product lead Cobie, saying Cobie’s goal after taking over the Base App is to drive users to transact on-chain, but Base management’s recent performance has again damaged user trust. He questioned how the Base App will attract new users when team culture makes supporters feel “fooled.”

Cobie responded that a few days ago he took over the Base App, while also handling Coinbase App, advanced trading, and other Coinbase trading products, but he is not responsible for the Base chain. He admitted that in the past, Coinbase had to some extent been “ivory tower,” more distant from users—especially crypto-native users—and that Coinbase and Base have burned through a large amount of user trust due to some avoidable mistakes, including the incident from that day.

Cobie said these issues cannot be resolved within a week or even a month. He will try to listen more to voices from on-chain users, push for tighter ties between product developers and users, and roll out products that users genuinely want to use.

Rune then said that Base’s infrastructure still has the potential to become a leading L2, but it needs leadership that truly prioritizes users, and he hopes Cobie can change the current situation.

Hope Cobie doesn’t disappoint Rune, and doesn’t disappoint users again.

Actually, Base App’s potential has always been there, it was just held back earlier by Coinbase’s arrogance. Taking over as Cobie at least shows the team wants to change, but users aren’t stupid—you treated them a certain way before, and they remember it clearly. What needs to be done now isn’t to sell promises, but to make every user feel respected—for example, improving gas fees, optimizing the experience, and interacting directly with the community. Rune’s skepticism is spot on; we’re expecting Cobie to bring real, hard-core improvements.

I like the phrase “user leadership.” I hope Cobie can bring out something real.

Once trust is broken, it’s harder to repair than to build something new—let’s see how Cobie can pull off a comeback.

Cobie can admit his mistakes and show a good attitude, but Coinbase’s trust has been drained far too badly in the past. Now they say they’re listening to users—who’s going to believe that? Unless he can really build something everyone actually wants to use.

Rune is right—Base’s underlying technical foundation really is solid, but no matter how good the infrastructure is, it’s useless if no one dares to use it. Cobie’s response is relatively sincere; he acknowledged the disconnect from users and the mistakes. However, to truly win back trust, it can’t rely on just one speech—you need to deliver specific product updates and a user feedback mechanism so developers can talk with users face to face. Looking forward to the changes.

Coinbase used to be really chaotic—users were treated like “leeks,” cut for several rounds. Now do they finally know to turn back? Since Cobie has taken over, let’s see what they do—don’t just talk; put it into practice.
