Hey, I just saw some discussion about a certain public chain upgrade causing downtime, and a bunch of people started speculating whether the ecosystem projects are going to run away. Honestly, my first reaction was panic too—if the TVL runs off, it would be heartbreaking. But once I calm down, migration is basically like moving houses; you can’t just look at how pretty the new place is.

Over the past few days, I dug into the mechanics of a few cross-chain protocols and found that words like data availability, ordering, and finality look scary, but in reality there’s only one main thread: who has the authority to decide the transaction order, and who can ensure the transaction results can’t be overturned. If you think about it, ordering is like lining up to get food, and finality is like the cafeteria aunt stamping to confirm you actually ate. Without that underlying foundation, even the fanciest flywheel won’t spin.

Self-questioning and answering: Is data availability just about putting data in?
— No, you also need to see who can freely take it out and check it, otherwise it just becomes air.

Anyway, I talk like I’m pessimistic, but the ones I’ve been adding to recently are also those that are making solid optimizations around ordering and finality. I won’t move blindly on migration until I think it through. That’s it for now.
