Doubao mobile phones begin abandoning “taking over apps”

LatePost reports that the new-generation Doubao mobile phone has adjusted how it cooperates with AI and super-apps
Instead of operating apps by reading the screen and simulating clicks (GUI Agent), it is turning to MCP (Model Context Protocol)
That means:
• It does not read your screen;
• It does not click on your behalf like a human;
• Only when an app proactively opens an MCP interface can Doubao call data and perform actions
This means the development direction of AI phones is shifting from “simulating human operation” to “official interface collaboration”
For platforms, it’s safer and easier to obtain cooperation;
For developers, whoever opens MCP first has a better chance to get integrated into the AI ecosystem
In addition, according to people close to Doubao mobile phones, the inventory for the new-generation Doubao mobile phone has increased from about 30k units to hundreds of thousands of units
One signal is becoming increasingly clear:
AI phones are moving from technical experiments toward large-scale sales
The next stage may no longer be about who has the smarter Agent, but about who can connect more apps, more services, and more real-world scenarios
