The 2026 World Conference on Artificial Intelligence and the High-Level Meeting on Global AI Governance opened in Shanghai on the 17th. At the opening ceremony, UN Secretary-General António Guterres delivered remarks, highly praising China’s important contributions to advancing global AI governance. He said that China fully supports the United Nations’ “Global Digital Compact,” promotes consensus in the UN General Assembly to adopt the first resolution on AI capacity building, and praised China’s “open-source strategy” as having achieved enormous success globally.
