Netflix cut the cost of producing documentary content in half using AI



Netflix said in its Q2 report that using AI enabled it to create 17 minutes of documentary content twice as fast and twice as cheaply as usual. The company also emphasized that films will still be made by people.

Amid rising competition in streaming, Netflix is boosting content spending — its budget reached $20 billion. Lowering per-unit costs through AI is becoming a meaningful lever for margins: even partial optimization at such a production scale delivers a noticeable impact on operating profit.
