I respect @zachxbt more than almost anyone in this space
But this take is wrong. And I say that with my full chest
He said hardware wallets are garbage and you should use a separate iPhone instead
Let me explain why an iPhone will never replace a hardware wallet
A hardware wallet has one job. Store your private key offline. That's it
No WiFi. No apps. No browser. No camera. No microphone. No cellular connection
Just minimal firmware designed to do one thing, keep your keys safe inside a secure chip that is physically designed to never release them
Now let's talk about an iPhone
An iPhone is a general purpose computer connected to the internet
It has WiFi. Bluetooth. Cellular data. A browser. An app store. iCloud backup. Microphone. Camera
It runs millions of lines of code. Any one of those lines could have a vulnerability
Remember Pegasus? A zero click spyware that infected iPhones without the user doing ANYTHING
No link clicked. No app downloaded. Just a silent message and your entire phone was compromised
That spyware accessed everything. Messages. Camera. Microphone. Files
Now imagine your "hardware wallet" is that iPhone
Your private key is sitting on a device that can be silently compromised without you knowing
A Ledger or Trezor? Pegasus can't touch it. Because there's no internet connection to attack through
No full operating system to exploit. Just a secure chip doing one job
Is a dedicated iPhone better than using your daily phone for crypto? Yes absolutely. That part is fair
But is it better than a $59 device specifically built with a secure chip that never connects to the internet? No
Yes Ledger Live has annoying updates. Yes the UI breaks sometimes. That's a valid complaint
But "the app is annoying" is not the same as "the security model is broken"
Zach is the best investigator in crypto. Nobody disputes that
But the best investigator doesn't have to be the best security advisor
