On July 17, the U.S. stock market semiconductor sector saw a sharp sell-off. The Philadelphia Semiconductor Index fell 4.3% in a single day, closing at 11,867.50 points, which means it has now pulled back by more than 22% from its mid-June peak and has officially entered a technical bear market. Memory chips became the most heavily targeted segment of the sell-off—SanDisk (SNDK) plunged 12.63%, closing at $1,411.08; Western Digital (WDC) tumbled 9.15%, closing at $466.81; SK Hynix ADR (SKHY) dropped 13.69%, closing at $152.31; and Micron Technology (MU) fell 5.65%, closing at $853.20. Seagate Technology (STX) crashed 10.00%, closing at $745.49.
All four memory heavyweight stocks have retreated by more than 30% from their recent highs, and all of them have fallen into a technical bear market. Meanwhile, all three major U.S. indices closed lower together—the Dow Jones Index fell 0.2% to 52,552.97 points, the Nasdaq fell 1.47% to 25,881.95 points, and the S&P 500 fell 0.51% to 7,533.76 points. However, Apple surged 4.01%, and Alph
