A Florida man embedded a Trojan in multiple Steam games to steal at least $220k worth of cryptocurrency assets

According to Decrypt, an American man, Zyaire Dontaevious Zamarion Wilkins, has been accused of embedding crypto-stealing malware in Steam games such as “BlockBlasters,” “Dashverse,” “Lunara,” and “PirateFi,” together with accomplices. The FBI said the relevant malicious games infected about 8,000 devices from May 2024 to February 2026 and compromised about 80 crypto wallets, stealing at least $220k. The group promoted “free trials” through Discord, LinkedIn, Telegram, and X, and the malware could steal browser passwords, cookies, and wallet private keys. The games have now been delisted by Valve, and users have been urged to reinstall their systems.

These days, even Steam games aren’t safe. Free demos are indeed the most expensive trap.

“BlockBlasters”“Dashverse” — these game names sound like knockoffs. Next time you see a new free Steam game, search for whether there’s any news first before you say anything.

It feels like Steam’s moderation is basically a joke—how could this kind of malware stay on the platform for so long? Shouldn’t the game platform reflect on this?

$220k doesn’t sound like much, but with only 80 wallets stolen out of 8,000 devices, it suggests their technical skills are just so-so—luckily they ran into careless users.

The FBI getting involved indicates the problem is serious. Everyone is advised to store your browser passwords and wallet separately, and not to skip those two-step verifications.

On Discord and Telegram, anyone promoting free games should be treated as a scammer. My friend fell for it—his computer was turned directly into a mining rig.
