Golden Finance News reports that on July 16, at 3:00 a.m. Beijing time on July 20, the 2026 FIFA World Cup final between the United States, Canada, and Mexico is about to kick off. The two teams, Spain and Argentina, will not only compete for the coveted trophy, but also for the highest-ever prize money in football history.
This edition’s event overall has seen a comprehensive upgrade in fiscal investment. The total prize pool amounts to $727 million, a 50% increase over the previous edition.
The official FIFA announcement confirms that the team that wins this World Cup will receive a $50 million placement bonus. Compared with the 2022 Qatar World Cup champion’s $42 million, this represents a 19% increase, setting a new record for World Cup prize money. In addition, all participating teams will receive substantial earnings under a tiered bonus distribution standard: runner-up $33 million, third place $29 million, fourth place $27 million. Teams eliminated in the quarterfinals receive a guaranteed $19 million, while teams exiting in the Round of 16 get $15 million. Even if a team goes out early in the group stage, it will still receive a $9 million base bonus.
