On July 16, the official website of the Guizhou Provincial Commission for Discipline Inspection and Supervision released an authoritative notice. Xu Liuwei, a Party member of the Guizhou Provincial Administration for Market Regulation, is currently under disciplinary review and supervisory investigation by the Guizhou Provincial Commission for Discipline Inspection and Supervision for alleged serious violations of discipline and law. The news quickly sparked widespread public attention. Many netizens were surprised by the fall of this young official who had previously gone viral for being bold and proactive on the frontline of poverty alleviation, including a public “run-in” with a well-known entrepreneur.

Publicly available CV information shows that Xu Liuwei was born in June 1982, from Hong’an County, Hubei Province. He holds a master’s degree from Renmin University of China. After joining the workforce in August 2005, he served for a long time in the General Office of the Guizhou provincial government. In April 2012, he was transferred to become a standing committee member of the Party Committee of Danzhai County and vice county magistrate. After that, he was gradually promoted. In January 2014, he became the deputy secretary of the Party Committee of Danzhai County and the county head. At the age of 32, he became the youngest county head in Guizhou Province at the time.
