Crypto news: The Indian Directorate General of Shipping late on Wednesday ordered shipowners, ship management companies, and crew agent agencies to suspend the dispatch of Indian seafarers through the Strait of Hormuz, in response to a recent increase in attacks in the area and heightened tensions between Iran and the United States. A recent attack in the area resulted in the death of an Indian seafarer. The International Chamber of Shipping and BIMCO estimate that more than 310,000 Indian seafarers work on merchant vessels, and India is the world’s second-largest supplier of seafarers.

Safety first—the crew’s lives matter more than anything else. Pausing dispatch is a practical move.

India, as the world’s second-largest supplier of seafarers, has been hit hard by this stoppage. We hope our seafarer brothers and sisters can return home safely—don’t let geopolitics endanger innocent people.

The tense situation in the Strait of Hormuz is like a pressure cooker; India’s move to suspend dispatches is like releasing pressure early, but global shipping is likely to suffer headaches as well.
