Crypto.com said the funding round is expected to be used to accelerate the expansion of asset classes such as tokenized securities and derivatives, and to drive the linkage between the digital asset market and traditional financial markets.

After ten years, it was the first time institutions raised funding—had they been relying on user transaction fees to get by all along? If a top-tier market maker like Citadel comes in, it could mean the compliance process accelerates, which is good news for the industry; but we also need to be wary of whether Wall Street’s playbook might distort the original goal of decentralization.
