Golden Finance reported that on July 17, a Bitcoin wallet that had been unused since the end of 2017 transferred 5907.56 BTC on Thursday, worth approximately $384 million, with the funds moved to a new address. Data from Galaxy Research shows that these BTC were originally received on December 14, 2017, and transferred in Bitcoin block 958217 at around UTC 00:15.
The institution estimated that the related holdings rose by about $286 million compared with an average purchase price of roughly $17,000, a gain of 291%. The funds were sent to a wallet that had not previously been identified, rather than a known exchange deposit address; the on-chain information does not show that the holder has sold the Bitcoin. This transfer also moved the BTC from the traditional address format starting with “1” to the newer bc1q address format.
