TechFlow Deep Tide news: On July 17, according to a report by Cointelegraph, a joint report released by Visa and Artemis said that the autonomous AI agent economy faces infrastructure bottlenecks. Traditional card payment systems, designed for low-frequency transactions, are unable to handle the near-zero fees and fast settlement required for the high-frequency micropayments that AI agents need.
The report said that by mid-2025, AI agents have crossed key capability thresholds and can independently assess prices and complete payments. The x402 payment protocol developed by Coinbase has processed a transaction volume of $15 million and more than 109 million transactions since going live in May 2025. In October 2025, monthly transaction volume surged to 3.8 million transactions.
