Mars Finance news: According to a report by the Financial Times, insiders say that Chinese AI unicorn Moonshot AI plans to release a new large language model, Kimi K3, soon. The model has 2 trillion to 3 trillion parameters, making it the AI model with the largest parameter scale in China. Its performance is expected to surpass Anthropic’s flagship model Claude Opus 4.8 on mainstream benchmark tests (industry speculation puts Opus 4.8’s parameter count at about 1.5 trillion to 2 trillion). Unlike today’s U.S. mainstream, closed-source, and expensive frontier models, Kimi K3 will be an open-weight model that is available for users to download and modify for free, which could put competitive pressure on top U.S. labs such as OpenAI and Anthropic. With U.S. model service fees continuing to rise (for example, Anthropic has announced it will increase the price of Opus 4.8 by 50% in September), some overseas companies have begun switching to Chinese open-source models that offer better value for money.

In the capital markets, insiders say Moonshot AI is preparing a new round of fundraising, with the latest expected valuation reaching about $31.5 billion.
