Crypto news site Chainjie.com: Base founder Jesse Pollak admitted that his earlier bet on on-chain native social was wrong. In the future, Base will focus on three areas: trading, payments, and AI Agents. Trading will cover tokenized stocks, meme coins, and application tokens, while payments will center on global stablecoins. AI Agents will serve the machine economy. Base’s applications will be handed back to the Coinbase team, with Cobie taking over to drive the work forward. Base will continue to support developers through Base Layer, Base Batches, the ecosystem fund, and resource distribution by Coinbase.

When Base was doing social things before, I already felt the risks were high—sure enough, they’ve now admitted they were wrong. But they can quickly pivot into a new track, focusing on stablecoin payments and AI agents, and with Coinbase resources backing them, the future still looks promising. However, keep an eye on the bubble risk in the meme coin segment.

Social media is indeed hard to do, so it has shifted to a more pragmatic approach.

Admitting mistakes in time and adjusting direction is far better than stubbornly sticking to it. This round of Base focusing on transaction payments and AI feels more reliable than social.

From native social on the betting chain to a full pivot to transaction payments and AI Agents, Pollak seems to have figured it out. Now the social track is too crowded, and Base has more advantages by serving as the infrastructure instead. It also makes sense for Cobie to take over the application layer, focusing on what each is best at.
