Crypto news: A man in South Florida has been charged for allegedly stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of crypto assets through malicious software. The 21-year-old, Zyaire Dontaevious Zamarion Wilkins, is accused of orchestrating a campaign using eight games embedded with malware in an attempt to gain unauthorized access to cryptocurrency wallets. The FBI said Wilkins and his accomplices infected about 8,000 people’s devices, gaining access to 80 crypto wallets and stealing at least $220k in digital assets. If convicted, Wilkins could face 10 years in prison.

$220,000 in exchange for ten years—when you work it out, you only earn a little over $20,000 per year; you’d be better off delivering food instead, at least you won’t end up in jail.

Pitiful those ordinary people who have been infected—they may not even know that their own wallet addresses have been leaked. It’s recommended to regularly check the authorization list, so don’t leave an opening for malicious contracts.

Spreading a trojan through games? This method is quite novel, but among 8,000 victims it only stole $220k—on average, each person lost a small amount. Still, it’s pretty disgusting for the victims.

Only 21 years old and already involved in this kind of high-tech crime—such a smart person, but they went wrong. Ten years in prison is enough for him to reflect.

Eight games… they’re probably all cracked versions or pirated resources. Grabbing a bargain can lead to big losses—your U tokens in your wallet might just fly away like that.

The FBI can track this kind of cross-device attack, which shows that the combination of on-chain traces and offline forensics is working well. Everyone should be more careful before downloading any unknown games in the future.
