Samsung plans to outsource Google’s 2nm TPU backend design

Golden Finance reported that on July 16, affected by a surge in foundry outsourcing orders and internal engineering manpower pressure, Samsung Electronics is considering outsourcing the backend design business for Google’s 2-nanometer tensor processing unit (TPU) input/output die (I/ODie) to external partner manufacturers. Multiple industry insiders said Samsung recently approached its design solutions partner (DSP) to inquire about its willingness to take on the backend design business for Google’s tenth-generation TPU input/output die. This TPU, code-named “Icefish,” will be manufactured using Samsung’s 2-nanometer process.
