The German government provides up to €11.5 billion in guarantees for cruise ship orders

The German government will provide up to €11.5 billion (about $13.1 billion) in sovereign guarantees to support a cruise ship construction contract between shipbuilder Meyer Werft GmbH and Swiss cruise operator MSC Cruises. According to insiders, on Wednesday the German Federal Parliament budget committee decided in a closed-door meeting that the federal government should provide the above-mentioned guarantees, including interest.
