Rubio convenes an AI economic diplomacy summit today

Golden Finance reports that US Secretary of State Rubio will preside over the first meeting of the Economic Diplomacy Action Group (EDAG) on Wednesday. The mechanism was initially established during the Biden administration and has been in place for two years so far. A State Department official said the group is made up of heads of various federal agencies, and its responsibilities are to “set the direction and priorities of US economic policy, thereby advancing the goals of US foreign policy.” These goals include “the US maintaining a leadership position in the field of artificial intelligence.” Attendees also include officials from the State Department, the Department of Commerce, the Department of Energy, the Department of Agriculture, the Department of Defense, and the Department of the Treasury, as well as the US Trade Representative, the US Export-Import Bank, the Development Finance Corporation, the US Trade and Development Agency, the Small Business Administration, the Millennium Challenge Corporation, and heads of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy.
