Australia will set up an AI office to limit data center energy consumption

Golden Finance reported that on July 15, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said on Wednesday that the Australian government will establish an “Artificial Intelligence Office” to oversee the development of AI standards, and will also require data centers to become net energy producers and limit water usage. The office will be set up under the Prime Minister’s Office to ensure that all cabinet departments adopt a coordinated, consistent whole-of-government response approach. Relevant legislation will be submitted to parliament in early next year.
