Trump: The US may soon strike Iran’s “Gowashan” nuclear facility; Gowashan has two deeply buried tunnel complexes and is believed to be one of Iran’s most robust underground nuclear facilities
In a recent television program, U.S. President Trump said that the U.S. “may soon” strike Iran’s “Gowashan” underground nuclear facility near Iran’s Natanz uranium enrichment facilities. “Gowashan” is located about 1.6 kilometers south of the Natanz uranium enrichment facilities and has two deeply buried tunnel complexes. It is believed to be one of Iran’s most robust underground nuclear facilities, and experts say it is capable of withstanding attacks from the United States’ strongest in-service bunker-buster bombs.
Previously reported: On July 15, local time, according to a message from the U.S. Central Command, the U.S. completed a new round of strikes against Iran that day at 7:30. The U.S. Central Command said that during the 90-minute operation, the U.S. used precision-guided munitions to strike coastal defense systems on Greater Cholmbu Island, as well as cruise missile storage and launch facilities. The U.S. Central Command said that this strike further weakened Iran’s ability to attack commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran: Will not bow its head to demand talks with the US. On July 14, local time, in an interview, Garibabadi, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran, said that the passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz is not important to the United States, and that U.S. President Trump himself has acknowledged this. However, the United States does not want Iran to have actual sovereignty over the Strait of Hormuz. Garibabadi also said that Iran has never left the negotiating table— it was the United States that tore up the “Islamabad Understanding Memorandum”— and under no circumstances could Iran possibly be the first to bow its head and request talks with the United States.
