🔥 🇯🇵 Japan reclassifies cryptocurrencies as financial assets

Japan’s parliament has passed landmark legislation that officially places cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin into the financial assets category. The new law brings them under the framework of the Financial Instruments and Exchange Act; insider trading rules, information disclosure obligations, and more stringent penalties will extend to the crypto market.
At the same time, it paves the way for tax reductions—an anticipated 20% tax rate could draw more institutional capital. But tighter regulation may squeeze the operating space for decentralized projects, and rising compliance costs may eliminate some smaller players.
Japan’s market independence is limited, and the global macro environment remains the dominant factor. Regulatory clarity is a double-edged sword: it brings legitimacy while also bringing constraints.
