Musk: The X platform code will be “fully open-sourced without exception,” inviting third parties to verify it to ensure transparency

Elon Musk drops a bombshell today, announcing that after completing a review of security vulnerabilities, the entire codebase of X (formerly Twitter) will be fully open-sourced “without exception.” In addition, the official will invite third-party experts to conduct an inspection to ensure that the open-source code is completely consistent with the real operating systems, striving to build global users’ trust through thorough transparency.

The transparency reform of social media platform X (formerly Twitter) is about to reach a historic moment. On July 15, 2026, at the Taipei time of 8:00 AM, X platform owner Elon Musk made a major declaration on his personal account, deciding to lay the platform’s underlying architecture completely bare to the public.

Once we have completed our review for security vulnerabilities, we will make the entire codebase of 𝕏 open source, with no exceptions.

Moreover, we will invite third party reviewers to examine the system that is running to confirm that the open source code is what is running.…

No exceptions! The entire codebase will be open-sourced

In his post, Musk said clearly that once the internal team completes a comprehensive review of security vulnerabilities, X will fully open-source the entire codebase. “No exceptions,” Musk specifically emphasized the thoroughness of this open-sourcing effort. This means that developers and everyday users around the world will be able to personally inspect the platform’s algorithms and the logic underlying its operation.

Bring in third-party review to ensure “saying what you do”

To prevent open-sourcing from becoming mere corporate public relations optics, Musk also pledged that the official will proactively invite third-party reviewers to step in and evaluate. These external experts will be responsible for checking the system that is currently actually running, to objectively confirm that the open-source code the official has published is completely identical to the code that is truly running on the servers.

“Only through complete transparency can trust be built—this is the only way worth believing,” Musk said at the end of his post, revealing the core principle behind this major decision.
