Trump’s Permanent Daylight Saving Time Act Passes the U.S. House of Representatives

BlockBeats: On July 15, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the Sunshine Protection Act with a bipartisan vote of 308 in favor and 117 against. The bill aims to make Daylight Saving Time permanent, using the current time schedule from March to November year-round. This would permanently set U.S. stock market opening time to 9:30 PM (UTC+8), instead of switching to 10:30 PM (UTC+8) during the winter time period. States may choose exemptions before the bill takes effect. The bill has now been submitted to the Senate for consideration and has not yet been passed by the Senate.

Trump publicly supported the bill, saying that changing the clocks twice a year imposes significant economic costs, and stated that he would work to push it through to become law. Some Republicans oppose it, arguing that late winter sunrise would affect students’ safety on the way to school and could lead to students traveling in the dark or delaying the start of classes. Supporters, meanwhile, believe that ending the clock changes can improve sleep, reduce accidents, and promote economic activity.
