The UK government announced on July 14 that it will impose a “curfew” on social media use for teenagers aged 16 to 17. This is the latest set of social media restrictions issued by the UK government following last month’s announcement that it would ban people under 16 from using a range of social media applications.
According to a statement by the UK government, with default settings enabled, teenagers aged 16 to 17 may not use social media between 12:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. In addition, features intended to encourage users to browse for longer periods—such as video autoplay in continuous mode and personalized content recommendation mechanisms—will also be switched off by default. At present, the UK government has not yet stated which social media platforms this ban will cover. (CCTV International News)
