FOMO Is One of the Fastest Ways to Blow a Trading Account 🧵
You've probably seen it before.
A coin suddenly starts pumping.
People on X are posting screenshots of huge profits.
Everyone is saying, "We're going to the moon!"
You start thinking:
"What if this is the opportunity I've been waiting for?"
So you buy...
Then, almost immediately, the price reverses.
Now you're stuck in a losing trade while the people who bought early are taking profits.
This is called FOMO—Fear Of Missing Out.
FOMO is an emotional reaction that makes traders abandon logic and chase the market because they don't want to miss a potential profit.
The problem is that by the time most people feel the urge to buy, the biggest part of the move has already happened.
Instead of buying based on a strategy, they're buying based on excitement.
Why FOMO Is Dangerous
• It makes you enter trades too late.
• It causes you to ignore your trading plan.
• It encourages oversized positions because you want to "make up" for missing the move.
• It often leads to panic selling when the price starts falling.
Over time, these emotional decisions can drain your trading account.
How Professional Traders Avoid FOMO
✔ They trade according to a plan—not social media hype.
✔ They know their entry, stop loss, and take-profit before entering any trade.
✔ They understand that not every move is their opportunity.
✔ They protect their capital first because there will always be another setup.
One of the hardest lessons in trading is accepting that you don't have to catch every move to become profitable.
There will always be another opportunity tomorrow, next week, and next month.
The market rewards patience far more than impulsive decisions.
Remember:
The goal isn't to trade more. The goal is to trade better.
The next time you feel the urge to jump into a trade because everyone else is making money, pause and ask yourself:
"Am I following my strategy, or am I following the crowd?"
That one question could save you from your next bad trade.
