SK Group Chairman Choi Tae-won: Memory Demand Will Continue to Increase, Our Supply Capacity Will Never Catch Up

Abstract generation in progress
On July 11, SK Group Chairman Choi Tae-won stated in an interview with Bloomberg that AI is fundamentally changing the demand logic in the memory chip industry. In the past, memory demand was mainly limited by population and the number of end devices; however, in the future, each person may simultaneously own dozens or even hundreds of AI entities, generating a massive amount of cache and leading to an extremely large demand for memory. For this reason, SK Hynix plans to double its overall production capacity in the next five years. Choi predicts that memory demand in the AI era will grow exponentially, and supply shortages may persist for years, while capacity expansion will still struggle to keep up with demand.
