Abstract generation in progress
According to monitoring by Beating and cited by Bloomberg, OpenAI's first consumer hardware is a screenless AI speaker. It is equipped with a battery, camera, and sensors, allowing it to be easily moved between different rooms while understanding the user's surroundings. This device is marketed as an 'AI companion.' It can control smart home devices, play content, answer questions, and respond to messages. The system can also access personal information such as emails, gradually learning about the user and proactively providing relevant information. The device features a self-moving mechanical structure, aiming to make it resemble a living entity. Its voice capabilities will be based on GPT-Live, allowing it to listen and speak simultaneously. OpenAI plans to announce the product this year, with a release expected in 2027. However, the product is still in development, and details may change. Apple has filed a lawsuit against OpenAI for allegedly stealing trade secrets related to hardware and is seeking an injunction, which may affect the product's release timeline.
