Reuters: Payments giant Stripe and private equity firm Advent International have jointly proposed to acquire PayPal for $60.50 per share, valuing it at more than $53 billion. The offer represents a premium of about 28% over PayPal’s Tuesday closing price, and has already received support of roughly $50 billion in bank financing. The report says the two sides submitted the acquisition proposal earlier this month, after preliminary discussions in April of this year, and have not yet received a formal response from PayPal. Under the proposal, Stripe and Advent would co-own PayPal with each holding 50%, rather than splitting the company. However, insiders say it is not yet clear whether the deal can ultimately be completed.
